Nope, they arn't. Why to waste money when you have several good directories offering you a free link?

You can go for bidding directories when your site gets more than at least PR5.

If the landing page has a high PR and low number of listings and you are chasing PR then the bid may be worth it. Other than that no its not worth the bid.
Sadly also some owner put up non genuine bids to raise the stakes. I have seen some with top bid in the hundreds of $'s, yeah right!!!!!

I think bidding directories are better when used for a special purpose. Usually you see them used with people that are more on the "cutting edge". For example, it is common to see gambling links on these types of directories. We do offer a bidding version of phpLD due to customer demand, but lately I don't see as many people interested in them. Nevertheless, if you have a good plan, don't underestimate the possible results.

Total agree with that statement, i think its better if you are aiming at a niche rather than a general directory where every tom, dick and harry can submit any old site if they offer enough money. Ive seen some good bid directorys too which have been well looked after and casino and nasty sites have been refunded and rejected. These sites are getting rare though because of the high prices the casino's are prepared to pay.
