Directory Submissions Checks ?

Im thinking of starting my own directory ive been told that aiming at a particular niche is a good idea so im not going to disclose my choosen niche yet however i have some questions ?

How often do you login and approve/disapprove new listings ?
Would people pay to be in a new directory ? Or should i start off for free and convert to paid later on ?
What Script is best and most customisable ?

If there are any other tips you can give me too that would be most welcome

Well I think that you should always start a directory free of charge. When it will develop, then convert it to a paid one.
