Should old, closed and less interesting threads be deleted?

nope, as itl give the forum better stats by keeping them, and there maybe somet5hing usefull in them

No. Maybe do an archive or something, but definitely don't delete them. Gives nice search engine traffic later on

And is generally a nice place to find good information.

As far as I know, there's already an archive available, so all the threads are saved in it

Anyways, I think you're right: we should leave'em as they are and not delete them

Never delete the old thread.. The more content you have, the more chances of getting traffic from Search Engines. However.. I suggest you to delete some crappy threads like this one.
