A unix shell script has to check for a file in a folder, once every 5 mins?

    I need to write a unix shell script that would check a folder for a particular file. This file would be put by another application, so i dont know when the file would come. So, i need to check the folder throughout the day, once every 5 mins. Should i use sleep command in my script or is there any better way
