Check the dynamics of your link mass in other services, such as Seranking / Moz / The hoth or similar. I don't trust 100% any service except GSC. Interestingly, each of these services has different information, the main thing to keep track of the overall dynamics

Hello! It's great that you're building backlinks, but losing such a large number of backlinks in just 3 months is concerning. There could be a variety of reasons why this is happening, such as the websites where your previous backlinks were placed being taken down or changed. To bring your link graph up again, you could focus on building high-quality backlinks from reputable websites and regularly monitoring your backlink profile to ensure that any lost backlinks are replaced.

Losing a significant number of backlinks in a short period can be concerning, and it's important to investigate the reasons behind it. Here are a few possible explanations for the sudden drop in backlinks:

  1. Link Removals: It's possible that some websites or webmasters decided to remove the backlinks they had previously provided to your site. This could be due to various reasons such as updating their content, changing their linking strategy, or cleaning up their backlink profile. Unfortunately, you have limited control over these external decisions.
  2. Linking Websites Shutting Down: If the websites that were linking to your site have shut down or gone offline, the backlinks they previously provided will no longer be active. This can result in a loss of backlinks from those sources.
  3. Algorithmic Changes: Search engine algorithms are constantly evolving, and updates can impact the way backlinks are evaluated. It's possible that certain backlinks that were previously considered valuable are now being devalued or discounted by the algorithms, leading to a drop in reported backlinks.
To address the issue and improve your backlink profile, consider the following steps:

  1. Conduct a Backlink Audit: Use backlink analysis tools like Ahrefs or Moz to analyze the remaining backlinks and identify any low-quality or spammy links that could be negatively affecting your profile. Disavow or remove these harmful links to ensure a healthier backlink profile.
  2. Focus on Quality: Instead of solely focusing on the number of backlinks, prioritize the quality and relevance of the links. Aim for links from authoritative and reputable websites in your industry. Create high-quality content that others would naturally want to link to, and actively seek opportunities for guest blogging and collaborations with relevant influencers or industry experts.
  3. Diversify Your Link-Building Strategy: Relying on a single method or source for backlinks can make your profile vulnerable to fluctuations. Diversify your link-building efforts by exploring different tactics such as content marketing, social media promotion, influencer outreach, and building relationships within your industry.
  4. Monitor Backlinks Regularly: Keep a close eye on your backlink profile using tools like Ahrefs or Moz. Regularly monitor changes, both positive and negative, and address any issues promptly.
Remember, building a strong backlink profile takes time and effort. Focus on acquiring high-quality, relevant, and natural backlinks from reputable sources, and continually evaluate and adapt your strategy based on industry trends and search engine guidelines.
